Dana - prices
In order to overcome our greed and egoism a buddhist practices dana, giving. The teacher gives his time and wisdom, the sangha gave the temple/monastery, students and guests gives food and other necessities to the monks, money to the temple.
The tradition of dana is an invitation to participate in the spirit of generosity and compassion that has sustained Buddhism for more than 2,500 years - and that will guarantee our on-going shared practice and enable our teacher to continue teaching. Today, the generous practice of dana is the foundation for Egely's existence.
The temple depends on gifts and dana, the generosity of people. This continuous voluntary commitment allows Egely monastery to grow and continue her programs.
Because of this we have no prices as such. The programs at Egely are run through the generosity of our volunteer staff, and our teacher shares in this firm commitment to the principle of dana rather than adopting a more conventional fee-paying structure.
We gratefully accept donations of relevant foodstuffs, building materials, fuel, parafine oils, etc. as well as monetary donations. We also accept your generous donation of time and work effort, that makes it possible for the monastery to run its programs and hold costs at a minimum. Please contact us, if you would like to contribute with a specific donation.
The monetary donation you give for sesshin, courses, open monastery visits, and other activities covers only the cost of the activity itself. At present, the monastery is being run at a loss, and it is only through the generousity of our supporting members that we can continue offering our programs. Should you wish to become a supporting member, please contact us for details.
Our teacher gives freely, without limits, of his time, energy and understanding, and no part of your donation for participating in our activities is reserved for him. Therefore, he relies upon donations from students who value his guidance and wish to support the ongoing teachings of the Dharma. You can support our teacher by giving a donation in the envelopes by the dana box or by depositing a donation in our bank acct. Please indicate that this donation is for our teacher.
We also gratefully accept monetary donations that can allow all that are interested in the dharma to participate in our programs, irrespective of financial circumstances. If you wish to make such a donation, please indicate that this is the purpose in mind.
Rinzai Zen Buddhist Society (formerly Skandinavisk Zen Center), has been approved as a religious society by the Danish tax authority. This means that gifts, dana (and monthly donations), to RZBS - and thereby the monastery - are tax-deductible for citizens of the EU/EØS (and we are currently investigating how) from January 1, 2009.
